5 Things We Wished We Had Known When We Were Planning Our Wedding

Sally and Martin

A very special post from one of our past wedding couples

I'm so very pleased to introduce Sally and Martin Hewitson who got married in November of 2011 and booked our Wedding Day Management service. Their beautiful winter wedding took place on what felt like the sunniest and warmest November day on record.

In this post Sally and Martin share their top 5 things they wish they had known when they were planning their wedding.

1. That Wedding Planners exist and they are for normal people, not just celebs

Having a wedding planner takes a lot of stress away.  We spent hours sourcing suppliers when we were organising our wedding and to have had a wedding planner might have helped us stay a little bit more focused.  We used Val’s ‘On the Day’ service and it was great, it meant that we didn’t have to worry about checking everything with suppliers on the lead up to the wedding, we knew that Val would be on hand to avert disasters and we could relax and enjoy our  day.

2. The seating plan didn’t really matter on the day

We had the maximum number of guests possible for the venue at our wedding breakfast which meant that we were quite limited as to who sat where.  We  spent a lot of time trying to arrange the tables as best we could to try and please everyone, in the end we had to mix up family and friends to fit everyone in.  We made sure that everyone knew at least one other guest on their table and everyone was happy, everyone there had one thing in common after all, they knew us.

3. How helpful everyone would be

Everyone seemed to go the extra mile for us.  We took the table decorations to the venue the day before the wedding and staff there laid everything out for us, they were fantastic and really exceeded our expectations.  We had a winter wedding and it was rather chilly, so as well as chilled champagne the wedding car company also provided a flask of tea and a flask of coffee, we happily sipped the champagne but it was a lovely touch knowing that they really cared and made the extra effort to make sure we were warm.

4. What a magical day it would be

When you are going to wedding fairs, trying on dress, tasting cakes and looking at flowers it is easy to lose sight of what the day is actually about.

5. You have to pay extra for church bells

We didn’t realise that church bells would be an extra expense but we were really pleased that our budget could stretch to them, it was lovely to hear the  practise leading up to the wedding knowing that they were practising for our wedding.  On the day, it just added to excitement and emotion of the ceremony. Martin proposed while we were on holiday in November 2010 and we got married exactly a year later at St Peter’s Church, Conisbrough and had our reception at Warmsworth Hall near Doncaster . The day itself was amazing, we couldn’t have wanted anything else and we spent our honeymoon in the Caribbean.
