1.    Birdsall House, North Yorkshire

Birdsall House and Estate is a private, family-owned property nestled in the heart of the North Yorkshire countryside. Home to the Willoughby family for nearly 500 years, it offers a rare combination of history, heritage, warmth and exclusivity.
Blending timeless British charm with relaxed luxury, weddings at Birdsall House are elegant, personal and completely bespoke. They can accommodate intimate civil ceremonies, church weddings, expansive marquee weddings on the lawns, and weekend-long house parties.

Whether you choose an indoor celebration in the elegant state rooms or an outdoor wedding ceremony by the 11th-century monastery ruins, every setting offers breathtaking possibilities. Above all, you and your guests are invited to make the house your own, surrounded by heritage, natural beauty and the welcoming warmth of a family home.

Benessamy Says…

Birdsall House is ideal for planning a full wedding weekend. Use the house, gardens and marquee spaces at different points, and complement on-site accommodation with the fabulous nearby Langton Hall. This will allow your guests to fully settle into the rhythm of the estate while enjoying a truly luxurious stay.

2.    Thicket Priory, North Yorkshire

Just 20 minutes from York, this Grade II-listed Victorian country house is one of North Yorkshire’s finest exclusive-use wedding venues. Dating back to the 1840s and built by Edward Blore, known for his work on Buckingham Palace, between 1955 and 2009 Thicket Priory was home to an order of nuns and sealed off from the outside world.

Today, this tranquil sanctuary offers 35 en-suite bedrooms, a magnificent ballroom that can seat up to 160 guests, a private chapel, 18 acres of grounds, and a private lake and a boathouse. A myriad of mysterious staircases and doors make this historic venue feel even more magical.

Benessamy Says…
With so many bedrooms on site, Thicket Priory works beautifully when you treat it as a destination retreat. Consider hosting a relaxed welcome dinner or farewell brunch to make the most of the house and grounds.

3.    Highclere Castle, Hampshire

Highclere Castle, a magnificent Jacobethan country house in Hampshire, is probably best known as the filming location for Downton Abbey. In real life, it’s home to the Earl of Carnarvon.

Featuring stunning Victorian Gothic architecture by Sir Charles Barry, opulent State Rooms, and beautiful gardens and parkland designed by Capability Brown, Highclere Castle is a perfect setting for small destination weddings of up to 30 guests. The venue can also accommodate larger marquee weddings.

Benessamy Says…
Highclere Castle is best suited to intimate celebrations, so focus on exceptional styling, refined dining and a tightly curated guest list to fully honour the scale and significance of the State Rooms.

4.    Hedsor House, Buckinghamshire

Frequently graces the pages of Tatler and Vogue, Hedsor House is a beautiful Georgian country home set in 100 acres of elegant parkland, just 40 minutes from London.

When you marry at Hedsor House, you have the option to hire the venue on a Dry Hire basis or choose one of their luxury curated wedding packages. Either way, you’ll have exclusive-use of the house and gardens. There’s also luxury overnight accommodation for up to 26 people in the House, and the opportunity to hire The Hive, a 3-bedroomed cottage in the grounds, the night before your wedding. I love that they also provide a delicious, homecooked breakfast the morning after for all your overnight guests.

5.    Blenheim Palace, Oxfordshire

Blenheim Palace, a magnificent 18th-century English Baroque country house in Oxfordshire, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill, and the grand ancestral home of the Dukes of Marlborough.

The Palace and surrounding estate provide a spectacular setting for your wedding. Ceremonies can be held in the Marlborough Room with its beautiful double-vaulted ceiling and chandeliers or the more intimate Oudenarde Room. Alternatively, you can enjoy panoramic views of the Palace and grounds while exchanging vows outside in the Formal Gardens.

There are a number of magnificent spaces inside the main Palace to host your reception including the Great Hall and Long Library. For larger weddings, marquees can be located in a range of beautiful areas across the Estate.

Benessamy Says…
Early logistical planning is essential at Blenheim Palace, particularly for guest movement, production schedules and styling. You want to ensure the grandeur of the Palace is enhanced rather than overwhelmed.

6.    Dundas Castle, Edinburgh

Located close to the historic city of Edinburgh, Dundas Castle is just a short distance from the city centre but surrounded by some of the most beautiful scenery imaginable.

With the ability to host large weddings and smaller, more intimate celebrations, the venue has a multitude of ceremony and reception settings to choose from, both within the Castle itself and across grounds. There are also 17 charming bedrooms which can accommodate up to 37 adult guests with additional beds available for children.

Benessamy Says…
Dundas Castle is ideal for couples who want a dramatic setting without sacrificing warmth. Use the variety of indoor and outdoor spaces to create distinct moments, from a grand ceremony to an intimate late-night celebration.

7.    Hopetoun House, Edinburgh

Originally built in 1699, Hopetoun House is a timeless, elegant stately home set within the expansive Hopetoun Estate near Edinburgh. As one of Scotland’s most iconic venues, it combines grand interiors with breathtaking scenery. The Hope family still live in the house, inviting you to enjoy their home on your wedding day with exclusive use of the Stables and Ballroom.

Upon arrival, your guests will be welcomed through a secluded courtyard, with a grand clock tower providing a striking backdrop. For your ceremony, the lovingly restored Stables features a long aisle, impressive lantern lights, original ironwork details, and Georgian windows. The beautiful Ballroom acts as blank canvas for your reception and the adjoining Tapestry Room and Tiger Hall are wonderfully cosy with wood burning fires.

Benessamy Says…
Hopetoun House offers separate ceremony and reception spaces, so consider designing a strong guest journey, from arrival in the courtyard through to the Ballroom. Use music, florals and timing to create a sense of occasion at every transition.
