At Benessamy, we’re passionate about the Caribbean. We never miss an opportunity to share our love for the region with other people. If you’ve decided it could be the perfect location for your destination wedding, you probably feel the same, even if you’ve never visited before. That’s the magic of the Caribbean!
We want to encourage you to create an authentic Caribbean wedding. You’ve chosen one of the most beautiful, vibrant parts of the world to be the backdrop for your wedding day. If you focus on celebrating the things that make the Caribbean so special, you’ll be creating an effortless, elevated celebration of your marriage. Read on to discover our top tips…
If you’re getting married in the rainforests of St. Lucia, there’s no point filling your Pinterest boards with pictures of seasonal British flowers. Instead, you need to think about tropical varieties that thrive in the Caribbean. The same rule applies to all aspects of your wedding – you need to be realistic about what will and won’t work in the heat, on the beach or at your chosen venue. If you’re not sure, we’re here to help. We’re always happy to offer guidance and advice. If we don’t know the answer to your question, we’ll be able to connect you with an industry expert who does.
I’d also recommend looking to the islands themselves for inspiration. The landscape, architecture, history, culture, festivals and traditions are full of colours, textures and details that can be incorporated into the look and feel of your Caribbean wedding.
It’s important to remember the Caribbean Islands are not homogenous. They may have sun, sea and sand in common, but they’re all individual and unique. Planning an authentic Caribbean wedding means taking this into consideration and staying true to your chosen location.
From florals to food, music and entertainment, we’d urge you to embrace what the islands have to offer. Plan a menu filled with the best local produce. Serve cocktails made with locally distilled rum (if you’re in Barbados, it has to be Mount Gay!). Opt for flowers you’d find growing on the island. Book the band that makes you feel like you’re dancing at Carnival.
As well as getting the best of everything for your wedding, supporting local growers and artisans is good for the island’s economy and the environment. Just make sure you read our guide to working with local vendors before you commit.
