Thanks to the unpredictable British weather, even a wedding in the height of summer isn’t guaranteed to be hot and dry. So we always advise our clients to have a rainy wedding day plan B. Having a plan in place for wet weather will definitely reduce the worry levels and doesn’t have to be all bad! Here are our top tips for making the best of it if your wedding ends up a little on the wet side.
Invariably, you will want some group or couple photos to be taken outside. Although rain can make for very cool wedding photos, it’s always a good idea to have a sheltered back up plan you’re happy with as the backdrop to the photos you’re going to keep and look at forever.
Have your photographer do a recce beforehand or earlier in the day so there’s no scrambling last minute to find a good backup location. Advise them to bring a few towels to cover benches or other seating, in case you can go outside for photos once it has stopped raining.
If you need to dress weather appropriately for your rainy wedding photos, you can plan in advance to make the best of it by getting yourself some extra kit - wellington boots in your colour scheme, a monogrammed or clear umbrellas, a gorgeous bridal shawl for warmth.
If you’re expecting rain, add a little buffer time into your day schedule. If it starts to rain as you’re outside with your guests enjoying drinks and canapes, make sure your caterer knows in advance that they may need to be ready a little earlier for guests to be seated for dinner.
Check with your hair and makeup artists to see if they might be able to sort you out with a plan B for rain - set you up with moisture resistant hairspray and extra face powder. Better yet, can they stay on a little later if the weather looks ominous to do some touch ups to your hair and makeup before your bridal photos, to fix anything the rain might have altered!
It will make all the difference! Sure, it’s not ideal that it’s raining but if you’ve planned ahead and expected rain, any sunshine will be a bonus. Smiling and shaking it off will make sure you don’t let a little wet weather ruin your big day.
